BS 6701 — installation practice in plain English
What BS 6701 means for buyers, how it relates to 11801/50173, and what good installation practice looks like on site.
BS 6701 sits in the “how it should be installed” conversation for telecommunications cabling in the UK. It is not a substitute for naming the performance class/category of the horizontal plant.
What buyers should take away
- Installation practice and workmanship expectations matter as much as product category
- Specs that only say “Cat6” without practice/test expectations leave gaps
- Ask bidders how they handle pathways, segregation, labelling and testing — not only which box of cable they buy
