Tender checklist for structured cabling packages

A practical checklist for construction PMs: scope boundaries, standards language, testing, documentation and overflow capacity.

Incomplete cabling packages create disputes at snag. This checklist is for PMs writing or reviewing tenders — not a full specification.

Scope boundaries

  • Horizontal vs backbone vs comms room presentation
  • Containment in or out
  • Materials owner
  • Working hours / occupied constraints
  • Whether Wi-Fi survey or switch config is excluded (usually yes)

Standards language

Name the standards family you mean (for example ISO/IEC 11801 / EN 50173 / TIA-568 context) and the category/class for horizontal plant. Vague “Cat6 throughout” without test method invites arguments.

Testing

State permanent link vs channel (copper) and fibre methods. Require results mapped to IDs.

Documentation

Legends, as-builts, snag process, O&M minimum. If you need photo records, say so (and respect client NDAs).

Overflow capacity

If the programme can spike, ask how the bidder adds crew without brand leakage — see overflow guidance.
